An introduction to playing Russian Solitaire

Look at the complete hand before deciding. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Select cards directly on the tableau and work through a full solo deal. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear. Treat this as a chance to practise one rule. Move any face-up card and its tail onto the next higher rank of the same suit. Kings fill empty columns. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer.

Yukon-style deal, same-suit building, no stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

One thing to notice as you play

Use the rule sheet as a reference. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear.

The goal to keep in mind

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Take the next action only when the current step is clear. Use the rule sheet as a reference.

The order of play

  1. Move any face-up card and its tail onto the next higher rank of the same suit. Kings fill empty columns.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Move exposed cards onto suit foundations in the stated rank order.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How your actions work

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear. Use the rule sheet as a reference.

A useful example

A heart 6 fits a heart 7, not a spade 7. Take the next action only when the current step is clear.

Check this before moving on

A clear plan starts with the current position. Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear.
